A Catastrophic Kind of Girl.

That's me in a nutshell. (No, this is me in a nutshell: Help! I'm in a nutshell! How did I get into this bloody great big nutshell? What kind of shell has a nut like this? *props if you guess the movie*)

J had his 4 month check up, and yet again I walked away feeling like the Crappiest Mummy on the Planet. He's 16.5 lbs and 25 inches, and very healthy... EXCEPT his neck. I've been trying to find a PT for him, but not hard enough. It's not like I've been ignoring the problem, I've been taking him to the Chiro once a week and it's been helping, but not enough. So finally the NP tells me THIS TIME that there's someone who can tell me where I can find a pediatric PT, and despite being rude, the lady gives me the number to call for the local pediatric PT clinic. Why did they not give me this info a month ago?! Seriously. I have felt like a crappy mum for a month because I haven't been able to figure out how to find a PPT, and they had the info for me all along? UGH. J also has really sensitive skin like Mercy, so the NP brought the doctor in to take a look and figure out what dosage of a steroid cream to give us a prescription for. The doctor was great, super nice and friendly, and after the steroid cream discussion, they talked about his neck a bit too. And the nurse mentions the torticollis and also says "he seems like he might have some facial asymmetry too". I'm sorry, whadda whaa? The doctor said nothing about that, just said that he does have some mild torticollis, and then said what a beautiful baby he was, and the NP agreed, saying he was so cute. Thanks for stroking the mommy ego after popping it like a latex balloon. So now I'm all sorts of confused. Does he have facial asymmetry? What the crack is that? What do I do for that? Is this yet another thing that's going to worry me at night? So I come home confused and just wierded out.

After tonights AMAZAZING (more props if you can name THAT movie!) cooking class (infused with Chris Farley skits and YouTube praising) I come home again, and chat with my mum and Marlies online about the appointment. Marlies pshaws the NP, saying that she really should haven't been so alarmist about things, and that the office should have been on the ball more about helping me find a PPT, and that his face is just fine, i ruv Marlies. Mum is like me, slightly less catastrophic except when I'm being the catastrophic one, then she's level headed. Anyways, she calms me down some more and says that we need to live and learn and move forward. I go drama queen on her and say it's hard to do when you feel like you've ruined your son and he's only 4 months old, then she says "now Laurie, that is catastrophizing." And I say "I know, but I'm a catastrophic kind of girl."

At least I can admit it.

And for the record, I think this face is beautiful.

Facial asymmetry my behind! I am by no means a doctor (or a NP in this case), but I see nothing wrong with that beautiful little boy! If the doctor made no mention, then don't go all catastophic. ;)

Oh, BTW, I started quoting my man Austin Danger Powers as soon as I saw the word nutshell. Funny how you went on to quote the line too. We really do think alike. Scary..... *MUAH*

Laurie,
So sad to hear about your little guy J. I don't know how Sierra Vista doesn't have more doctors available! When we got here and I got sick I was hoping there would be more doctors to choose from. There are more than 60 doctors and every single kind of specialist. Not to mention 2 hospitals that are both great. (Yes, I have been to both of them. ER and then testing at the other.) I certainly hope someone there would be able to find a doctor or PT that could help him. Very cute picture btw! Take care, Jess
