And then my lap squeaks an offended sound. It's J, reminding me that I stopped our all important lesson of how to blow raspberries with efficiency and minimal drooling.
Maybe VHS tapes on the floor aren't such an eyesore... If they're providing entertainment and laughs, maybe they can wait to be picked up for a bit longer. After all, a happy boy and a happy baby with VHS tapes behind them are more fun to look at than a sad boy and grumpy baby with a clean floor.

J had his 4 month check up, and yet again I walked away feeling like the Crappiest Mummy on the Planet. He's 16.5 lbs and 25 inches, and very healthy... EXCEPT his neck. I've been trying to find a PT for him, but not hard enough. It's not like I've been ignoring the problem, I've been taking him to the Chiro once a week and it's been helping, but not enough. So finally the NP tells me THIS TIME that there's someone who can tell me where I can find a pediatric PT, and despite being rude, the lady gives me the number to call for the local pediatric PT clinic. Why did they not give me this info a month ago?! Seriously. I have felt like a crappy mum for a month because I haven't been able to figure out how to find a PPT, and they had the info for me all along? UGH. J also has really sensitive skin like Mercy, so the NP brought the doctor in to take a look and figure out what dosage of a steroid cream to give us a prescription for. The doctor was great, super nice and friendly, and after the steroid cream discussion, they talked about his neck a bit too. And the nurse mentions the torticollis and also says "he seems like he might have some facial asymmetry too". I'm sorry, whadda whaa? The doctor said nothing about that, just said that he does have some mild torticollis, and then said what a beautiful baby he was, and the NP agreed, saying he was so cute. Thanks for stroking the mommy ego after popping it like a latex balloon. So now I'm all sorts of confused. Does he have facial asymmetry? What the crack is that? What do I do for that? Is this yet another thing that's going to worry me at night? So I come home confused and just wierded out.
After tonights AMAZAZING (more props if you can name THAT movie!) cooking class (infused with Chris Farley skits and YouTube praising) I come home again, and chat with my mum and Marlies online about the appointment. Marlies pshaws the NP, saying that she really should haven't been so alarmist about things, and that the office should have been on the ball more about helping me find a PPT, and that his face is just fine, i ruv Marlies. Mum is like me, slightly less catastrophic except when I'm being the catastrophic one, then she's level headed. Anyways, she calms me down some more and says that we need to live and learn and move forward. I go drama queen on her and say it's hard to do when you feel like you've ruined your son and he's only 4 months old, then she says "now Laurie, that is catastrophizing." And I say "I know, but I'm a catastrophic kind of girl."
At least I can admit it.
And for the record, I think this face is beautiful.

Anyways, without further ado: (click on the image to see a bigger view)
I'm sure I'll post tomorrow, but tonight I. Am. KNACKERED. I was up late finishing my lesson for Relief Society (really, who's smart idea was it to call *me* to be a teacher? Underqualified: check! ) and my nerves were all over, so I had a hard time falling asleep, and when I finally DID fall asleep, J was up and down the rest of the night. Add to that our church starts at 8am, which means getting up at 6:30am if we want any chance at having a bench (a must-have with our kids), and that just wiped me out.

Sometimes it seems like P is growing up so fast, and I can't keep up. He's gone from being so dependant on me and still being baby-like to being a big boy, cleaning up his toys on his own and eating all by himself, and being SO independant. I can't stand it, I miss when he would just sit and cuddle with me whenever I asked, and when he would cry when I left the room! It feels like time is passing too quickly, I look at recent pictures of him and think "what?? when did that happen! when did he sprout into such a BOY!" and I silently cry for my baby back, and for lost moments...

What a silly question.
of COURSE you do!!
What's he talking about, you ask? I'm pretty sure he's giving you his opinions on the upcoming elections. *wink* And quite frankly, I feel like I agree with him.
Wanna see another cute kid? Well, why not. You're already here!
Yes, she is saying "stinky butt butt". Before you get too worked up about what I teach my kids, let me explain. That's what I say to J as I'm changing him, because something in the inflections or the sounds cracks him up, and 99.9999% of the time I'll get a smile or a chuckle out of him when I say it. And of course, little sponge that M is, she picked up on what I was saying and how she would get a smile too if she said it to J. So ha! Teach you to look down your nose at someone! *wink*
And yet again poor P has been left out of the fun video post. Shoot... I never have my video cam with me when he does something funny, or else I forget to whip it out. Poor middle child is already getting left out! Bad mummy after all, aren't I.

Mercy was named Student of the Week in her preschool class!!! She had such a great time this week, from pasting the numbers 1 through 10 on a paper (she did 1-5 on her own!) and doing Valentines activities, and their Valentines party on Thursday... she's just thriving there, it's great to see.
Porter's language is insane, he picks up words so quickly! He's also a little speed demon, he's too fast for us sometimes, and he's learning that means he can do things and then run away from us, of course laughing hysterically as he's booking it in the other direction.
J is my sweet baby of snuggles still. He's growing though, I can't make him slow down! He's chunkier than either P or M was at his age, I love his little rolls. The Chiropractor is helping with his Torticollis, but I wish it would just go away right now. But at least now he tolerates tummy time so much more than before. Mum brought him the Boppy Tummy Play mat and mini Boppy, and he seems to like it more than the normal sized Boppy. I swear we are a walking advertisement for Boppy, I LOVE their stuff. We have the play mat, the bouncer, and a Boppy (my third one).
Anyways, our "winter storm" has finally blown through, so getting outside sounds good to me.
And then a trip to Target sounds in order.

A hair chopping!! Yep, I chopped my hair off. I didn't get any pre-chop pictures, though there's kind of a shot of it in my Year of Fish blog (go look and comment on your favorite photos if you go check them out!), day 35. Anyways, it was a shocker to see the ponytail get snipped off and handed to me, but it was freeing too. Look at this mass of hair LOL!
After the Great Hair Chop of '08 (teehee), we walked the mall and got something to eat, then got Mercy a new pair of pink Chuck Taylor All Stars, size (wait for it.... wait for it...) eleven. Yes, my girl has giant feet. We looked for some shoes for Porter too, but he decided he'd rather scream and throw a fit than try on a pair of Vans, so no shoes for him. I *almost* got a cute pair of Sketcher ballet style, but... I refrained. Why? I have NO clue. Dang it.
I'm loving having mum here, it's been so nice. Plus she took J duty last night, woo!!! I wish she was here longer, but I'll take what I can get.
Porter's on a rampage tonight, so I'm off like a wet shirt.

Monday Mercy started preschool. That was good, but bad on the hormones. Heheh.
Tuesday was okay.
Wednesday was Let's Act Insane and Try to Make Mummy Climb on the Roof Day, plus that was when my poor bubby Jameson started getting sick. That night was miserable for the two of us; J was pretty much up and down all night, nothing was making him comfortable and of course, we were out of infant Tylenol. I think I got a total of 3 hours sleep that night? Yeah.... suuuuuucky.
Thursday wasn't much fun because of previously mentioned lack of sleep. I took J's temperature in the morning--101.9. Ouch. Luckily he slept most of the day when he wasn't moaning in our lap (really. he would sit in our lap and just moan. it was so sad!), and Mercy had a great day in preschool. I took J's temp again at 4 and it was 102.3, and I called the doctor. They said to give him Tylenol and to come in on Friday. Did I mention his doctor is an hour away? Yeah... But thursday night was actually blissful-J only woke up once. Wheeee!
Friday... friday. J's appointment was at 1:30, but Mercy had preschool from 12:30 to 3 and CJ is on the midnight shift so he can't help. So I had to call wonderful, awesome Kim and ask her if she could please drop off and pick up Mercy. Thankfully she agreed, and I dropped Mercy off with Kim and then Porter, J and I headed off to Tucson.
First, his stats: at 4 months 1 week he weighs 14lbs 8oz (up exactly two pounds in one month, woot!), and either 66 or 68 centimeters (about 25/26 inches). He's in the 75th percentile for both, and his head circumference was over the 100th percentile. LOL!!!
The diagnosis: poor bubby has a double ear infection. :( Poor kid. When I took him out of his carseat to comfort him before his appointment, I noticed his ears were really, really waxy, like coming out of his ears and almost to his cheek. He hadn't had that before, I know because I checked to see if his ears were red earlier, which they weren't. Anyways, the doctor had to actually scrape all the wax out of his ear to see his ear canal, oh wow. I've never seen that much earwax before, especially in someone so small!! Poor kid. The doctor said it was a combination of wax and pus. EW. And the poor kid is so sore and sensitive in the ear. just touching it makes him flinch and start to whimper. We have him on amoxicillin and hopefully that'll kick the nasty infections.
J also got a referral for a physical therapist for his neck. We've noticed he holds his head at an angle, you can see it in almost all the pics i have of him. Anyways, the doctor called it Torticollis, and it probably happened because of his position in the uterus or else when he was born. We caught it at a great time, it shouldn't have much of a lasting effect hopefully. But we have to take him to a physical therapist for evaluation and treatment. We're also taking him to the chiropractor next week, for a tissue massage or something like that. No cracking, just massage or the likes.
So there are the reasons that I dub this week my "woe is me" week.
At least until the next one comes along.
